Dropping the ball

We went to Seans radiation Thursday morning at literally dawn at the first hospital then drove downtown to Henry Ford to have his Chemotherapy treatment. When we arrived the nurse who escorted us to the chemotherapy room asked us why Sean had not had his blood work done before today. I told her he had no clue he was suppose to as no one had told us. She told me it should have been on his discharge papers from when he was hospitialized for the white blood cell count and fever . I told her the only thing on his discharge papers was for him to follow up today with his oncologist as some point. They had to do blood work first before beginning treatment due to the lack of bloodwork being scheduled. His count came back good so they started him on fluids and anti nausea medicine. He then recieved his chemotherapy which lasted not as long as we anticipated. I have came to the conclusion also that I do not care for people who are treating Sean being ill like it is something fascinating or worth gossiping about. He isn't a science project nor is his illness an indication of anything nor is his current state a prediction of something. Get a life:) Sean had his last radiation treatment for the week this morning and when we returned home I had to wash the entire bed and all of his clothes due to his night sweats last night. Also next week there is no chemotherapy planned.

So we spoke to the Surgeon

We spoke with the surgeon the other day and he said all of Seans scars were healing great. He also removed him from the oxygen and told him that after a month since the surgery passes he can go back to work given if he can deal with the chemo and radiation side effects. Sean starts Radiation treatment tommorow and Chemotherapy the 21st of this month. I have included updated pictures and will include a detailed treatment schedule when I have one.

Seans appointment with the Chemotherapist

The chemo doctors pretty much went over the same thing the radiologist did with a few differences. The oncologist stated Sean would not have to go back through surgery even though the surgeon had stated it was a possibility. They also want to do radiation and chemo together as well as place a new port in Seans chest. They also did a CAT scan friday and we are waiting to hear if they noticed anything with that one. I will update as we go

Update on treatment

Seans appointment Monday reconfirmed that the mass in his brain is gone. The neurologist mentioned that he was considering suggesting surgery to remove the cancer in Seans chest and was going to bring it up at the tumor board Wedsenday. Monday morning Sean recieved a paper in the mail attempting to schedule an appointment to reinsert a port a cath in his chest for next Friday which made little sense. The fact that the tumor board had yet to meet when the mail was sent pretty much means the chemotherapy office was ahead of themselves. In the case he may not have to have another port if they do indeed choose surgery making an appointment at the moment is useless. We will see what happens.

Seans treatment changes

Seans doctor called yet again and changed the schedule for his treatment again. They have decided that he will recieve one treatment of Chemotherapy tuesday then go three weeks without any treatment, radiation included. He then will have another Chemotherapy treatment after the three week timeframe and then they will decide if radiation is needed as well. I will update with the medication name when I have the chance.

The Call

We recieved a call today from Seans Radiation doctor about the results again of his Petscan. To begin with the scheduled treatments were arranged like so. Six doses of chemotherapy for six days while recieving radiation. The radiation would continue for a few weeks and then at the end of the radiation treatment another chemotherapy treatment of six doses for six days. Well they have decided that due to the positive results of Seans Petscan to change the treatments around a bit. Now they have six doses of chemo scheduled then three weeks of nothing then another six doses of chemo. Hopefully Sean will not need the radiation also. All I can do is pray.
